The Carling Family has supported JDRF, a charity which funds research into juvenile Type 1 Diabetes, since their daughter, Blaire, was diagnosed with the lifelong disease. JDRF has been adopted as United Capital’s corporate charity partner for the last three years. In that time, teams across our business have raised money to support the aim of JDRF, which is to eradicate Type 1 diabetes forever.
In 2019, Graeme and Leanne took on a challenging cycle ride from Vietnam to Cambodia in aid of JDRF, raising thousands of pounds along the way. In 2021, United Capital was the title sponsor at JDRF ’s 100th Anniversary Ball, marking a century since the invention of insulin. And in 2023 a team from United Capital will climb Kilimanjaro, aiming to raise significant funds for the charity.
Caudwell Children is changing the future of disabled children by providing access to the services, equipment, therapies and treatments they need to lead an active life. Founded by one of Britain’s most active and influential philanthropists John Caudwell, the charity aims to support disabled children so that they can lead ordinary lives, in whatever way they need.
John himself remains the charities largest benefactor and biggest ambassador, and by personally meeting all the associated costs of running the charity, he ensures that 100% of all donations go directly to meeting the needs of children with disabilities.
Graeme and Leanne Carling were invited by John Caudwell to join the Life-Changers Circle, and have committed to donating at least £1 million to Caudwell Children over the next ten years. Founded in 2000 by John Caudwell, the charity has provided support worth £85million for over 60,000 children with 650 different medical conditions.
Speaking of their commitment, the couple said “As parents ourselves…we can only imagine what it must feel like to not be able to provide your children with the care and support they need. Our hard work has left us in the fortunate position to be able to give back and it provides us both with a huge sense of personal and spiritual fulfilment to be able to help children who need that extra helping hand.”
The United Capital group is focused on the wellbeing of its employees, and is acutely aware of the mental health crisis in the building services industry, which sees more than two people die by suicide every day of the year. In order to open up the conversation about mental health in the industry, United Capital leads an ongoing campaign called United We Care, which encourages leaders across the group to role model positive conversations about mental health.
Group companies offer their employees access to a range of mental health resources, including access to a 24/7 employee assistance programme and qualified on-site Mental Health First Aiders.
From supporting local groups and charities, speaking to young people at employability events, donating materials and time to local projects, and organising fundraising events and initiatives, community spirit is abundant at United Capital Group.
